Denistone is derived from the name of a home called Dennistone, which was later burnt down by bushfires. Almost two decades later, Denistone House was rebuilt within the grounds of Ryde Hospital and the Graythwaite Rehabilitation Centre. Another historic house on Denistone is The Hermitage, built by the first settler Blaxland's son. The latter is on Pennant Avenue and is a heritage-listed site. The suburb's centre is the Denistone railway station, extending to Darvall Park - a forest reserve near the railway line. Even with years of bush regeneration, large areas of the park are still heavily infested with weeds. Bimbi Reserve and Denistone Park are two other parks that the suburb's residents are proud of. Some of Denistone's big streets are Blaxland Road (acts as a barrier between Denistone and Denistone East), Shaftsbury Road (separates Denistone from Denistone West), Ryedale Road, Terry Road, and Commissioners Road.
