One of the oldest establishments in Putney is the Malt Shovel near the present day Kissing Point, a brewery established by one of the earliest settlers James Squire. A punt service, driven by hand, once crossed the Parramatta River between Putney Point and Mortlake Point. The Mortlake Ferry was the first cable ferry in Putney. During World War II, Slazengers (Australia) Pty Ltd built a ship-building yard on Pellisier Road. Putney also has St Chad's Anglican Church on Delange Road. Cleves Park is the possible burial site of Bennelong. The suburb is also home to other heritage-listed sites, like the Evangelical Bible Church on Douglas Street, Thomas Bowden Retirement Village on Morrison Road, and the Kissing Point Wharf, which provides access to the Parramatta River and the Circular Quay. Morrisons Bay is named after soldier Archibald Morrison. A wealthy settler Captain William Raven owned 100 acres between Glades Bay to Morrisons Bay. Beach Street and Kemp Street are named after two world Champion rowers.
