Riverview is located on the northern end of the Lane Cove River and at the head of Tambourine Bay, with its foreshore occupied by Tambourine Bay Park. Riverview got its name because it basically provides a 'view' of the Lane Cove 'River'. One of its first structures is St Ignatius' College, a Jesuit school built in 1880 situated on Tambourine Bay Road and is listed on the Register of the National Estate. Two places of worship in Riverview are St Ignatius' College Chapel and Tambourine Bay Gospel Chapel. There are several recreation areas throughout the suburb. Marjorie York Reserve, is a famous playground that's perfect for families. Tambourine Bay Reserve is a massive park at the end of Tambourine Bay Road and Kallaroo Road, which has a barbecue area, picnic area, a playground and is great for bushwalks to Longueville and around the bay. Burns Bay Reserve lies in West Riverview and is used for soccer. It is complete with picnic and barbecue facilities, a playground, and a recreation area at the end of the walkway from Flaumont Avenue.
